Project Moku’ula ~ Return to Piko
**Scroll to very bottom of page for 7/2024 update
On the island of Māui, in the ahupua’a of Waine’e, on the edge of Lāhainā, you will find the location of the once revered and sacred wahi pana known as Moku’ula and Moku Hinia.
In the doctrines of the Hawaiian people, preserved in our oli helu (genealogical chants) and our spinal DNA, the ‘Iwi Kuamo’o, tell the story of Moku’ula island and Moku Hinia Pond.
Believed to have first been accessed as a sacred site in 600A.D, Moku’ula is remembered as a Piko, axis mundi, of the Earth. A Piko is a central point for which energy is distributed. We remember Moku’ula as a Piko for and with the inner-Earth waters, sometimes referred to as ‘iwi hilo wai.
Water is very significant in the doctrines. In Mū, our founders, the Mea Ne’e (plasmic beings), designed the atmosphere of Earth and, after that accomplishment, turned themselves into the waters of Earth. Many are familiar with the ongoing puzzle as to where water comes from, and further perplexed by the fact that water is considered inorganic.
The Mū-Hawaiians, such as those of my long spanning lineage, know very well where water comes from — it is the body and spirit of our founders, the Mea Ne’e.
The center of the our planet holds just as much water as the surface. We consider this inner-Earth water to be the most pure. Water, itself, is an archive. It has the skill to document and preserve as well as instruct and inform sacred information, such as trajectory of evolution. The water you hold in your hand today is the same water form the beginning of Earth’s water story. Water simply recycles itself over, and over again in its many forms.
In order for the this inner-Earth water to be fairly distributed on the surface, it needs a PIKO. Moku’ula is the Piko. There exists a divine meridian at Moku’ula that penetrates the crusts on the ocean floor, to this grand, sacred aquifer. From that inner water to the surface at Moku’ula there is an oscillation that had been functioning, uncorrupt, in the span of the ancients of days.
Moku Hinia is the pond that maintains the buoyancy to which allows Moku’ula to “levitate” — the island behaves much like the water, but has a solid form as to properly channel information — in this sophistication, it is equal parts water and solid; there is no measurable difference.
The time-line of Moku’ula is consistently under guardianship of Kihawahine, dragon/lizard Goddess who, throughout many wā, or epocs, has changed forms to accommodate evolutionary relatability. From the beginning of the story — she presents herself as ULI/NA WAHINE The primary feminine energy who is responsible for the explosion that incites the creation of all. It was within this energy did the Piko of Moku’ula remain until a human form inherited the kūleana (agreement/servcice).
By the 16th century AD, Moku’ula came into trust with the Pi’ilani lineage of Māui and became notable as a residence for the royalty who maintained its function as a Piko. Held in esteem by Pi’ilani’s daughter, Kihawahine Kalā’aiheana, who became the living, human embodiment of Kihawahine — thus, the energy of ULI was tranfered into human form. It was the human Kihawahine who resurrected the waters of Moku Hinia pond which then aligned the buoyancy of Moku’ula, and all was in Right Relation.
At this time, royalty found Moku’ula to be very resourceful due to it’s potent power and behavior of a antenna or broadcaster in the distribution of the inner-Earth waters. They learned how to harness and feed this power as to ensure balance of all things with the natural world.
By the late 18th century Māui’s most sacred Queen, Keōpūolani , descendant of Pi’ilani and a direct kin of Kihawahine joined in alliance (marriage) with Kamehameha the Great. As a result, Moku’ula was then transferred to the Kamehameha dynasty. The dynasty of Kamehameha, more familiar with Moku O Hawai’i (Big Island, the official “Hawai’i”), was not versed in the sophistication of this Piko — sacred sons, King Kamehameha II, Liholiho, and Kamehameha III, Kauikeaouli, made the island their home and official position of throne, but were not versed in it. Not much is known or remembered of sacred Queen Keōpūolani’s role in the maintenance of the piko at this point, or her efforts to maintain it’s function.
Kihawahine as protector ~ after the mortal death of Kihawahine Kalā’aiheana, her hā and wailua became transferrable into a spirtual Goddess. This is her 3rd form, or Kinolau. although Kihawahine, the entity, was still in custodianship of the Piko, she could not interfere in this changing of the dynasties. Humankind had inherited the Earth and whatever plans they hosted, they had to complete them.
By 1845, the seat of royalty officially left Moku’ula for Honolulu on the island of O’ahu. This was the moment Moku’ula became defiled.
Moku Hinia slowly began to evaporate and Moku’ula island fell into decay and eventual disrepair. In 1917, whatever remained of the waters of Moku Hinia was filled with dirt. And, in 1919, the entire site was leveled and a park was built over it. As of 2023, Moku’ula sat under a baseball field.
What is the Mission of Project Moku’ula ~ Return to Piko
We are a small group of Kanaka Ma’oli, Native Hawaiians, and Kanaka Pu’uwai, Hawaiians of Heart, who have heard and felt the calling for the restoration of Moku’ula!
In the aftermath of the horrific Māui wildfires, in my own pule to my kūpuna, my elders, the loudest response i’ve received is “Moku’ula!” ~ I know the time has come for the Piko to return to the people, and for the people to return to the Piko. This project is just one piece of the puzzle we’ll all begin to sort out and in as we restore and behold the power of the Piko of Moku'ula.
I, myself, Ke’oni Hanalei, come from a lineage that spans 2,000 years on Māui island, and 20,000 in the greater scope of what is now known as Papahānaumokuākea. Moku’ula is not just a reverence of mines, it’s also a kuleana.
Please feel free to email our project manager, Anela La’ahui Kahulani, returntopiko@gmail.com, should you have questions or shares you feel will contribute to this global effort! We are mobilizing!
Moku’ula na mea ‘āpau!
Aloha Mā,
Brother Ke’oni Hanalei of the Lonohiwa, Hoe Wa’a, and Mahat lines
Project Moku’ula has been ACCOMPLISHED!
Mahalo to all those who supported, and contributed.
Andara’s are energetically amorphous and they hold no history ~ they are completely free to become coded. If you were to ask me, even a week ago, if I would have imagined combining my Hawaiian culture with Andaras, I wouldn’t be able to make any correlation. Yet, here we are!
In the approach of our very own epoch shift, Wā, into Aquarius many things will become completed, reformed, and evolved. Aquarius is versed in the distribution of energy and intellect. We are shifting into the very Age of Coding. Because they are amorphous, not just in shape but also in that they hold no history, this hand-made, manufactured, plasmic glass is in a category of it’s own! I appreciate our ability to approach the topic of Andara with open hearts and innerstanding that, although they are not naturally occurring, they still hold a very powerful purpose and potential.
MAHALO! we are no longer requiring the contribution of more Andara delegates. This project is accomplished and completed!
We have completed the Andara inclusion portion of this project with over 300 Andaras sent from all over the world, including Antarctica!
This site is under construction ~ feel free to frequently visit to see what revisions we’ve made
All ‘ike, knowledge, stems from my personal lineage. I do not attempt to speak on behalf of other ‘ohana. Mahalo and with great hō’ihi, respect.
UPDATE2/2024: In March, Kumu Ikemanu Lum, and myself, will conduct a proper walking of the grounds of Moku’ula, and a request for consent of the gridding. Once this is accomplished, we will begin grid work with the Andara delegates. MAHALO for your support!
Update 3/2024: The Gridding has begun! To read a bit about our initial journey please click GOOGLE DOC
