The practice of ‘Ulu is synonymous with human emotion. The human emotion is experienced at full spectrum, including its movement and percussion in the body. This 1 hour and 45 min. workshop will focus on the emotional quality to which the Laua’e fern houses and that being the power of BEAUTY.
What is BEAUTY as the emotion? How does BEAUTY move and sound? In fern medicine BEAUTY ,as the emotion, is the art of expanding and expressing one’s true nature. This workshop will locate that essence in our own iwi kuamo’o as to extract and radiate that translation outward.
Haven’t heard of the ceremony of ‘Ulu? This is a 20,000 year old pre- historic Hawaiian tradition that has been held in secrecy for thousands of years. Join us to learn more and to discover its magic!

In ‘Ulu, you will draw from various movement disciplines which flex and stimulate the iwi kuamo’o (spinal cord). Breathing exercises help shift energy throughout the body and the auric field immediately surrounding the body. The incorporation of sound as a tool to activate the nervous system, DNA, cells and chromosomes – believed to be home to sacred codes and memory.

Pohala Botanicals founder Ke’oni Hanalei leads this workshop. He inherited this wisdom from his grandmother, Kau’ikeonalani, and his Mū-Hawaiian lineage. Born and raised on the island of Maui, Ke’oni was indoctrinated into many Hawaiian sacred rites by the Mū people.
