Maile (alyxia stellata) is a flowering, fragrant endemic vine of the Hawaiian islands. It is just one a few truly native vines found in the islands. As a distant relative to the Laurel, it has a similar aroma although more floral.

Maile is the most cherished wehi (adornment) of the Hawaiian people, and is commonly offered as lei in times of affection and celebration.

This botanical greatly enhances our capacity to direct and receive our affections and intent, and ensures this is done with great clarity. This is also why many hula dancers will grace themselves with Maile during performance. Because of this, Maile is the lā’au lapa’au (botanical medicine) of Expression.

In ancient lore it was Maile whose fragrance activated the human beings ability to radiate. As the vine, the Maile crawled its way to the un-inspired, near robotic human, and infused him with Kaona, or meaning.

  • Comes as a body oil/fragrance in 10ml glass vessel with metal roller and bamboo cap

  • Maile fragrance is extracted via enfleurage method, macerated in organic kukui oil

  • Includes a very small amount of organic laurel leaf essential oil

  • To the ancient Mū, the most medicinal area of the body to apply oil is the ‘ā’ī ‘oeoe, the back of the neck, the Medulla area. This is known to be the portal between the ethereal and the physical.

  • Maile is foraged wild from dense tropical forests of Maui and/or Kaua’i on private lands with permission from land custodians.

  • Made in super small batches on the island of Maui with ALOHA

  • For those who have enjoyed our pre-2020 version, this is a different variation of extraction of Maile and you may notice the enfleurage method yields a different aroma than our original.
